This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The colorful adjustable chairs draw the interest of students with ADHD as I try to get them to talk in front of their group or class to explain how they solved math problems. Once in the chairs, it provides a secondary focus so the student's primary focus can be speaking and explaining their ideas in math clearly.

The goal is to build confidence in students so they become strong speakers and give them equal opportunity to develop a deeper knowledge of math by explaining.

My students come with a variety of problems and deficits that make learning more difficult. ADHD should not keep them form having access to learning. Using the magnetic money manipulatives gives students a chance to show their understanding and make connections to the ten based number system with the ten frames by being free from sitting at their desk.

In the end, the chairs and the magnetic manipulatives are designed to get students with various attention deficit disorders out of their seats and in front of the class to mathematical think and speak and become capable adults in the future.
