Our upper elementary school serves PreK-5th graders in South Carolina. Our students come from a high poverty socioeconomic status with 98% receiving free lunch. Many of my students struggle in basic math number sense and real world application.
My students need notebooks, colored pencils, glue, scissors, paper and mentor text for our Math Workshop.
My students will be able to create individual math journals and notebooks for problem solving and hands on activities. The students can use them in math centers and whole group math class.
My Project
Teaching students to organize their thoughts, strategies and math skills will build greater comprehension. Note-booking is a great way for students to document their daily thinking, add class notes and practice with daily applications.
Dr Nicki Newton's mentor text, Math Workshop and Running Records, will provide strategies and expert advise on assessing student needs and deficits to increase student achievement.
These text will help me to model strategies and development greater understanding of all learners in my class.
The glue, pencils, notebooks, and scissors will provide the tools needed to create math journals and notebooks. Students can use these tools in our Math workshop during whole group, small groups and independent task time.
