This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students have an exuberance for learning and school that is inspiring. They arrive everyday full of drive and determination to take chances on their learning, and get all they can from every minute they spend at school. My goal is to instill a love and passion for school and learning into my students.

My school district is made up of 33% English Language Learners, and 60% are socioeconomically disadvantaged.

I want to be able to support my students in every way I can. Right now I can provide them with top notch compassion and instruction. However, I need help financially to provide them with the other learning tools my classroom is lacking.

My Project

My students will use these trays for math workshop. After reading a word problem as a class, the students will use these trays and their math manipulatives to represent the problem and show their thinking. They can also write and erase on these trays with dry erase markers.

Another amazing feature of these trays is that my students will be able to travel around with their work.

In math workshop, once my students are done building the math problem, they must show and explain their work to three other students. It was impossible for them to do this before with manipulatives. Getting up, talking about math, and seeing other kids' work is a vital piece of this math workshop and so impactful on student learning.
