Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.

Despite the many challenges they face, they come to school every day with a desire to learn and grow.

The majority of them receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status and while they may not have access to life experiences many of us see as "typical", they put forth great effort and tackle daily challenges with enthusiasm.

My Project

When you were in school, did you ever finish before your classmates and you just had to wait? In my classroom we never hear "I'm done". We have centers that my students can go work at and learn at their own pace.

We need a storage unit with trays to organize the classroom materials students use to learn and practice the third grade standards.

In the third grade, students start taking standardized tests where they are asked to solve problems using higher order thinking skills; with this differentiated activities they can develop different skills to be able to be successful.

Having this storage unit will help us use our time better and learn more, because students will be able to self-direct their learning and get the right math tools while I work in small groups with those students in need of support.
