My students are from a large, urban community that welcomes families from all over the globe. They bring a special blend of linguistic diversity, background knowledge, prior experiences and culture to our school. We are a Title I school in a low-income community, and I have twenty-eight students in my class. Free breakfast and free lunch are available to every child in our building each day.
I grew up in this city, and I truly believe I am meant to teach here and give back all I can to my hometown.
My school is a magical place. Despite the challenging home lives of many, my students walk in the door of our quaint little building and are welcomed with heartfelt greetings and genuine smiles, and they are ready to be the best they can be.
Our staff provides specific academic, emotional, and behavioral support to students to meet their specific needs so they can reach their personal potential. I am blessed to witness incredible student growth during each school year, a result of the dedication of my colleagues and hard work of our students.
My Project
In our classroom, we use the Guided Math Workshop structure daily. Students work in small groups, individually, with partners, and with the teacher to complete rigorous tasks. Learners are responsible for selecting appropriate activities to enable them to move along the continuum of mathematics learning. Sometimes students may need to support of a concrete math tool to help them visualize and understand the mathematics.
This storage shelf will enable students to easily find the materials they need to support their mathematical understanding.
Our classrooms are crowded and the furniture is old, and in disrepair. Please help us give our classroom a face lift so we can locate what we need when we need it! This organization unit is just what we need.
In addition, the clear pockets will be used when we engage in math workstations. We play many games repeatedly, and instead of wasting paper, we can insert out accountability sheets into these clear pockets and use a white board marker to record our answers. Thank you for your support!
