Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Most educators feel their students are the best and greatest. Although I can't argue with their opinions, I happen to think that I have the best and greatest students on this planet. There isn't a day that I don't look forward to seeing their faces and seeing them develop in knowledge and wisdom before my eyes. I may be their teacher, but they teach me so many lessons each day as well.
Despite the obstacles they face on a daily basis, they are always eager to learn and never give up hope.
I want to instill the joy that learning can bring regardless of the challenges my students face on their own.
My Project
I start the day by introducing centers to my students and group them according to their learning levels and needs. My students have developed an independence in which they know where to go and practice the skills needed to further their mathematical knowledge.
My students need differentiated centers that really engage them in the learning process and practice the skills that they will need to become lifelong mathematician learners.
These activity stations, materials, student equivalency practice boards, and Common Core math practice cards will help my students growth as mathematicians plus will encourage them to take risks, persevere and have a growth mindset in math class. I also added timers to my list because my students like to be challenged and they keep records of how fluent they are solving the problems correctly. This will also help me gain insight into the skills my students need help with. Math is a task is met with interest, energy, and a goal of becoming successful. It is amazing to watch students that often do not have prior knowledge or previous experiences with math, work hard to master the tasks that are taught and utilize their knowledge to expand their skills.
