My students need 3 STEM material kits to have the opportunity to explore and experience the new Common Core Standards being implemented in our District.
My students come from very diverse backgrounds and require very individualized and unique handling when teaching. As do all students. Our school is a Science, Math, Technology Magnet and we strive to provide our students access to curriculum that is key to their success in the 21st century.
The new focus for California is Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).
That being said the materials we are asking to have donated will enrich my students experience through hands on lessons that will lend them understanding and the ability to build upon this understanding as they continue through educational experience.
Additional my hope is that the experience of working with these resources will motivate my students to pursue careers in the STEM fields.
With the resources we will be able to use technology to enrich the daily experience of Geometry lessons by creating tangible examples for my students. If you can envision your experience in elementary school and try to remember lessons, the ones that stand out would be the hands on lessons. These require personal involvement and these resources will enable my students to have the memorable experiences we as students had. Kinex materials will enable my students to create engineering designs they have themselves designed as well as designs they have researched and discovered on the web that are aligned with our lesson. As a result my students will learn how to work in cooperative groups, conduct inquiry based learning, and explore STEM learning.
Students in the 21st century will need to have knowledge of STEM.
Your donations will enable students who may not otherwise have exposure to this very necessary tool for the future, gain a chance . We thank you in advance for your support. The Alexander Science Center School Room 20 Scholars.
