My Students

My students are funny and smart. My class is diverse, and there are many students whose first language is not English. They love exploring and being creative in their learning. Some of their favorite things to do are STEM activities and, of course, art. I have some of the most creative first graders! They also love being read to!

Nelson Mandela once said, "Education is the most important weapon which you can use to change the world."

In addition to teaching my students the core content, I am trying to teach them that education is powerful, that it will get them anywhere they want to go, and that it will help them to change the world.

My Project

It is time to update some of our math and reading manipulatives. This year I have students who love building things and thrive with hands-on activities. I am asking for the Magnetic Letter tiles to use during small group reading instruction. Students will use these to blend and read words. I am also asking for the Math Dominoes to use during small groups. Students will practice adding, subtracting and fractions using these dominoes. I am also asking for a Number Line Activity Chart to help students learn how to add and subtract using a number line. This will be used mostly during whole group instruction, but occasionally in small groups. The place value frame will also be used during whole group to help students better visualize hundreds, tens and ones.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
