Help me give my students workbooks to prepare for the FSA test providing them opportunity to have their own workbooks and allow them to solve the problems in them.
My 4th grade class is made up of 28 students. Ninety-eight percent are Hispanic. Eighteen students have been identified as SPED students with IEPs that require accommodations and modifications to their learning. Most of the students are coming from two separate households and do not have parental help with their homework. They are a great group of students that are eager to learn.
Each child in my classroom absolutely loves to learn.
They all learn through different ways and methods. I have to vary the instructional materials used to make their learning meaningful. I incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are! They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn each year!
My Project
My project will equip each of my students with their own workbook that will help them prepare for the FSA Math Assessment that they will take in the Spring of 2020. These particular workbooks will cover all of the benchmarks that students need the additional practices. Currently, my students do not have their own consumable workbook to use. Their real learning comes when they can hold the materials in their own hands and underline key words to determine operations that they should use to solve the problems. Teachers can model lessons through the smartboard, and, in turn, students can have their own copy to practice on. This makes learning more meaningful.
The addition of these workbooks to the class will help my students read and answer higher order questions more thoroughly.
They will be able to underline and highlight in the workbook as needed as well as solve the word problems. We will use these materials to aid us in the process of becoming life-long learners. As the teacher, I have done extensive research and reading on the importance of higher order critical thinking skills needed to solve operations. I desperately need your support to make this a reality. Thanks!
