I am noticing that my students are refining executive functions, building social reasoning, and expanding their academic skills. These games have been a goldmine for social-emotional learning (SEL) too. This is especially true for my for 4th graders who are navigating complex social dynamics and emotional regulation. So far, I have seen my students developing empathy, self-awareness, turn taking, and relationship skills. Imagine, this is being accomplished because the games are offering a playful, low-pressure way to practice. These \"old school\" board games have tapped into this in ways that have been both fun and educational.\r\n\r\nLet's start with turn-taking & patience. The games require waiting for turns, which is helping the build impulse control and respect for others' time. My classes are learning to manage frustration when things don't go their way. I have seen them being supportive teammates while cheering each other on, offering help, and resolving disagreements. Which at the moment involves \"Rock, Paper, Scissors\". My students are strengthening executive function by planning and strategizing on Battleship. They are planning their next steps in Parcheesi and Connect four. Their working memory is getting a much needed workout while remembering rules, tracking turns, and managing their time. \r\n\r\nThank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generous gift of classroom board games! Your kindness has brought more than just fun to our learning space—it's sparked collaboration, critical thinking, and joyful connection among my 4th grade students.\r\n\r\nEach game has become a tool for growth: helping students practice patience, build resilience, and strengthen their communication skills. Whether they're strategizing in a cooperative challenge or celebrating a well-earned win, your donation has turned ordinary moments into powerful learning experiences.","fullyFundedDate":1748023733881,"projectUrl":"project/game-on-transforming-learning-through-g/9302307/","projectTitle":"Game On: Transforming Learning Through Games","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. AROCHA","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4896727_orig.png?crop=398,398,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1572092052636","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4896727"},{"teacherId":2056682,"projectId":9296570,"letterContent":"The technology and supplies we've received are making a big impact on how our students engage with science. With access to a reliable printer, students can now print lab reports, data charts, research findings, and visuals for experiments, which strengthens both their analytical and communication skills. The paper and staplers help them organize their science journals and lab packets, allowing them to track hypotheses, observations, and results more effectively. These tools support hands-on learning and give students a more authentic lab experience, much like what real scientists use to record and present their work.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most is the ability to bring their science projects to life in a more tangible way. They love printing out their experiment results and diagrams to share with the class or use in presentations. One student, who's shown a growing interest in environmental science, has especially embraced the new materials—printing data from a classroom recycling study they led and compiling it into a report that inspired a class discussion. Being able to take ownership of their work and see it presented professionally has boosted both their confidence and curiosity. It's been amazing to see how something as simple as access to basic supplies can spark deeper engagement with science.","fullyFundedDate":1748026777697,"projectUrl":"project/empower-science-learners-with-essential/9296570/","projectTitle":"Empower Science Learners With Essential Supplies","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. L","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-lebow"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_42272","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":693,"numTeachers":55,"percentFrplEligible":55,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":94,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":76.3,"schoolId":42272,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Kendale Lakes Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Kendale Lakes Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/miami-dade-county-public-schools/kendale-lakes-elementary-school/42272"}
