I teach 21 second-grade students at Woodlake Elementary School in Mandeville, Louisiana. Our entire school was affected by Hurricane Katrina...we were closed down for five weeks! Many of my students were personally affected by the storm. A lot of trees were knocked down, but our Pelican pride won't be!!!
Even before Katrina hit, I noticed that my students need extra practice in math, especially with basic skills. My “Math on the Menu” program will establish a varied collection of interactive math activities, games, and collaborative projects which my students can choose from during our math menu time. The materials I have selected cover a wide range of concepts at a variety of levels to provide materials suited to reach each child's need.
