Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are excited about learning and always wanting to learn how things work and have so many great questions! First graders can’t get enough hands-on, dynamic tasks and activities that allow them to let their creative juices to flow. Every day my students are ready to attempt different challenges both individually and in small groups. They spark joy for learning every day!
Our school is in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, which is a growing area.
My students come from low income households and many students receive free lunch.
Every student in my classroom definitely loves discovering and learning new things even if the approach and setting where they like to learn best can differ completely. We find it important to encompass a range of learning approaches, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to guarantee that each student's needs are met wherever they choose to learn. My students are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn!
My Project
Children in 1st grade math predict, extend, and create patterns. My students will have fun counting, adding and patterning with the Market Math Hands-On Learning Center! The adorable apples will be great for the whole class or small groups.
First graders will transfer patterns from one medium to another, describe pattern rules, identify and generate patterns based on real-life situations, and explore number patterns.
I want to make it easy to provide daily math practice by counting and using numbers on a daily calendar and practicing essential math skills. The calendar will allow us to introduce a different activity each day.
The Magna Tiles will give my students a fun way to explore geometry concepts while they build!
