This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach PreK in the city of Detroit. All of my students live below the line of poverty and are considered at risk which qualifies them to be in the program I teach in. Due to their economic and academic disadvantages, I try to afford them experiences they may not otherwise have access to.
I try to expose my students to various experiences that will help them develop a love of learning through curiosity and exploration.
I teach at a STEM school and I want my students to have learning experiences that promote experiences in science, technology, engineering and math.
My Project
My students come to my classroom at an academic deficit. Many have no academic experiences until they enter my classroom. I feel it is my obligation to expose them to as many academic experiences as I possibly can while they are with me.
Math is a skill that is often overlooked at the PreK level.
I would love to incorporate rich math materials, manipulatives and experiences throughout our classroom to help students see how math is everywhere! The items we selected will encourage my early learners to identify numbers and associate numerals with quantity. Math is fun and what better way to set the foundation than with early math experiences?
