I teach two 4th grade classes as well as conduct guided math groups for 48 students daily. These classes consist of regular, gifted and special education students. All students require a sense of math fluency to find success in mathematics.
My students love to use math manipulatives to show their learning and understanding.
Students enjoy finding new ways to find an answer and explaining why some answers are incorrect. Daily math talks are a great way to help students deepen their understanding of number sense and concepts.
I love seeing a student get excited about explaining their math thinking. I want every child to embrace their learning and find success and enjoyment in math.
My Project
If kids are going to be prepared for the careers of tomorrow, learning mathematics is essential. Math skills form a critical foundation for many jobs in today's world. Math fluency paves the way for developing higher order math skills. This Daily Math Fluency kit will give me 180 days of instruction designed to develop numeracy and the ability to use mathematical relationships to reason with numbers and numerical concepts. Math fluency creates and builds confidence in math skills. Math can be an intimidating subject for many students. When students are able to develop math fluency, it gives them confidence in their ability to master math skills. Once students realize that, with hard work, they have the ability to master math skills, it will give them confidence to persevere and master more difficult skills.
