Celebrating Black History Month

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

I want to give my students a variety of math materials for a more hands-on approach to learning! Have students learn through doing, and not worksheets - because preschool-aged students shouldn't be sitting doing worksheets all day!

I want to give them dot, number, and 10-frame dice.

I think it would also be helpful for them to have addition games to plan in small groups, and number spinners to help build their number recognition in new and fun ways. A teacher mentor of mine taught me that students need to do the same thing in many different ways to really build understanding.

I also realized this past school year that within my blocks there are some geometric shapes I don't have a model of, which made it difficult for some students to understand what the shape is without seeing or feeling the shapes.

Overall, I want to provide more hands-on learning for my preschool students.
