Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach in a combination 3rd/4th grade class. One of the most important needs my students have is to gain automaticity with basic math facts. For the third graders, those are adding and subtracting; for the fourth graders, those are multiplying and dividing. While my main intention is to create thinking, reasoning, creative mathematicians, I also know that if they cannot do their basic facts quickly and correctly, from memory, they will struggle to grow and succeed as math students. I would like to purchase 17 sets of both addition and subtraction flash cards for my third graders, and 8 sets of both multiplication and division flash cards for my fourth graders. Later in the year they will also be sent home so that students can practice with their parents and other family members. Students in my class practice individually, create and play games with partners or family members (such as War), and do whole-class activities such as fast fact relay races. These flash cards will REALLY help motivate my students to succeed and enjoy learning these basic facts! Thanks for your help in creating a great class of math masters!
