My students need these boards and ten frames to help make math concrete instead of abstract.

My students come from a low-income area. My district does a great job at supporting us, however like most districts there is not a lot of extra money laying around. I want to help my students be the best they can be, and I think that this project will truly help them. I love teaching students new concepts and giving them the opportunity to be successful. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing a student be successful at something they once struggled with!
My goal is to keep my students actively engaged in their learning.
I use Daily 5 for reading and want to start incorporating Guided Math groups. This gives the students a choice in their learning and gives them the opportunity to take control of their own learning.
My students are the reason I come to work every day! They are funny, sweet, caring and just a great group of kids! I wish I could share them with each and every one of you because they are just that great! You would love to teach too, if you got to spend your day with my awesome students!
These tools will be used daily while I teach math to my students. The students will be able to use their hands and move the tools around to show what is happening during math.
Our math series uses 10 frames but once the student writes in one they are not able to use it again.
The ten frames I am requesting use chips that can be used time and again. Students will be able to use these not only during the lesson but also during independent practice. The number lines will be used in the same way as the ten frame. The students will no longer have to draw their own number line (which takes a lot of time for a 6 year old) but they will be able to use a dry erase marker and write on the number line and erase it making it ready for the next problem.
For a lot of students math is very abstract, but when they are given tools they are then able to see how numbers work together. The more math tools I can put into student's hands the more concrete math will become. As students are able to see and understand math, we will then move into how math is more abstract which will help them as they progress through harder skills.
