My Students
The students in my classroom are 6th grade self contained students. They have intellectual, sensory and emotional impairments that are aided in a small classroom setting. My students struggle with mathematics concepts and this year our goals are to build confidence in our foundation math skills and to become more engaged with our learning.
My students work together as a community based on their learning styles and interests.
They work very hard and a big issue for them is retention of topics. I am always looking for new and interesting ways in order to help them to thrive and remember different topics. We are a part of a large school that celebrates inquisitive learning. All of my students are working hard towards high school and college by relating all of their topics to real world situations.
My Project
I teach in a Title 1 school in Ridgewood Queens. My students are in a 12:1 classroom, many of the students have special needs and learn differently. They need supplies in order to help them to focus and stay on task that could be helpful. By having math manipulatives such as snap blocks and fraction tiles, they can visually see how fractions and numbers are made up in order to help them see things in a different way which is helpful to their learning.
My students need Math manipulatives for hands on learning in order to help them be successful in Math and STEM activities.
Division cards help build fluency skills that they do not already have and bins keep them responsible by keeping them organized and checking on their resources. By giving them resources to help them, my students will be able to succeed and move forward with their learning on a daily basis!
