Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

“All children can learn, just not in the same way, or on the same day.” As a special education teacher this is what we live by day in and day out. Our campus is a Title I school, where most students are economically disadvantaged and English emergent learners.

This new project is to supply our classroom with desperately needed hands-on math learning kits for our Resource students.

A Resource classroom is part of a pull-out special education program. Research has shown that when students can use math manipulatives it not only enhances their learning experiences but help them to process what they are learning by connecting their minds and bodies. Because these manipulatives are reusable you are supporting students for years to come!

Thank you for your time and generosity!

My Project

I am a math resource teacher. I teach students with a range of disabilities such as specific learning disabilities, ADHD, emotional disturbance, and intellectual disabilities. My goal is to present math to them in an enjoyable and interesting way that works and supports their abilities.

Math manipulatives provide an intriguing and motivational way for all students to learn.

Research has shown that when a student can manipulate things with their hands, they can learn abstract ideas in a concrete way. It takes learning from just paper and pencil to including movement to create a mind and body connection. It helps them see the reasonableness of their work and can help them spot their mistakes. And let's not forget, being able to "play" with math manipulatives is also FUN!

Thank you for taking the time to consider my DonorsChoose project.
