Do you remember ever just not GETTING something in math? And you felt defeated and inadequate? I hate that! I want kids to love math and feel confident about their abilities! I am requesting a collection of math manipulatives, to help explain tricky concepts.
I am the math coach at a very diverse school in SE Seattle.
Our school serves a huge range of students. We have a traditional program, a gifted program, an autism program, ESL, etc etc etc! I feel strongly that ALL these kids should love math and feel confident about their math abilities.
My Project
I am requesting a variety of great, math manipulatives for younger mathematicians. I want things to count, things to sort, play money (financial literacy is so important, and especially with lower income families, kids may not have a chance to see and touch money very often, so play money at school can be super helpful!), etc. I am also requesting math blocks in sets of ones, tens, hundreds, etc. This really helps to explain arithmetic, place value, etc.
These are great manipulatives and will really help kids to "get" the concepts we are working on in math class.
I want to make sure that all the kids at our school feel confident in their abilities and are not intimidated by math! These are great kids. I sure appreciate your help with this.
