This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students need and thrive on hands-on activities to build conceptual understanding in mathematics. When students are invited to organize, count, and record a collection of objects they are engaged, successful and problem solving. The materials in this proposal will update our Counting Collections library with items such as such as stones, counters, and sorting trays. Our students love to count these collections and share their strategies with each other. They also use them for solving and modeling word problems. The variety of objects is not only motivating but can also be used to differentiate for challenges or additional support. Our students are capable mathematicians and are developing a love of mathematics! Help support our proposal to create space and opportunities so that our multi-lingual learners have access to high-quality mathematics teaching and learning!
