Math Manipulatives During Math Stations...Oh My..Making Mathematicians!
My students need number line slider boards and a number bond visual activity kit to help them build their number sense concepts and increase their concrete understanding of solving addition and subtraction math facts.
Educating my first graders is my passion in life! Many of my students receive a free breakfast and a free lunch. They're from diverse economic backgrounds, but they work together to learn as a classroom community. I've worked hard to help each student reach his/her potential and believe he/she can achieve anything he/she wants to.
My students come to school eager to learn and share what they're learning with anyone they can.
It's amazing to see my students light up when they accomplish their goals and realize their potential!
My students work hard on a daily basis to grow as mathematicians during our guided math groups and math stations during Math Workshop. They currently use what they know and the limited hands-on materials we have to help them solve addition and subtraction facts. The Number Line Slider Boards have a pointer that the students will slide back and forth to create a concrete representation of the math facts they're solving. The moving of the pointer will emphasize the concepts of adding on and taking away when students are completing their math fact work. The Visualize It! Part-Whole Addition and Subtraction cards will be used when the students are doing stations during Math Workshop.
My students need lots of practice with math facts, so they will be able to use the Number Bonds Visual Models Activity Kit during independent work time and math stations.
This will help reinforce the concepts of addition and subtraction. These cards will help students compose and decompose numbers as well as make parts of 10. Those specific concepts are required grade level standards that first grade students are expected to be proficient in by the end of the school year. The Visualize It! Part-Whole Place Value cards will take my mathematicians number sense understanding to the next level by using their facts knowledge and applying it to base ten concepts.
