Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are energetic five-year old boys and girls who dream big! They come into the school year like sponges, ready and eager to learn all they can absorb.
Our school is a Title I school, so funds do not come easy.
98% of our students come from a low socio-economic status. Our class has eleven students that are hearing impaired, which makes our school unique. At our campus, we believe that we should empower, elevate, and motivate our unique students to be the best we can be.
My Project
My students need additional math manipulatives and activities to help improve their math skills. My deaf education students benefit the most from hands-on activities such as using magnets, bingo markers, and building things. Having a variety of materials helps them learn the same concept but in many different ways.
Deaf/Hard of hearing students generally begin to fall behind in math and reading after the primary grades, therefore it is imperative that I give them as many opportunities as possible to engage with manipulatives while they have the chance.
These manipulatives and activities will create new pathways for students so that they can succeed now and in the future.
