Although we did not introduce fish into the tank during its first year, having the system set up in the classroom provided students with a tangible model that continually sparked curiosity, questions, and scientific discussions.\r\n\r\nThroughout the year, we used the tank to connect classroom learning to concepts such as water systems, habitats, biotic and abiotic factors, and the needs of living organisms. Students were naturally drawn to the tank and often asked questions about how a river ecosystem functions, what organisms could survive in the environment, and what would be needed to maintain a healthy and balanced ecosystem.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, the River System Tank encouraged students to question, wonder, and think like scientists. It became an ongoing conversation piece that helped make our learning about ecosystems more meaningful and connected to the real world.\r\n\r\nThe curiosity and discussions sparked by the River System Tank have created a strong foundation for the next phase of the project. Throughout the year, it was used as part of a curiosity station, where students could independently investigate specimen slides up close. This encouraged students to ask questions, make observations, share discoveries, and explore the world around them in ways that would not have been possible with the naked eye.\r\n\r\nThe microscope was also featured during our STEM Night, giving students and families an opportunity to explore science together through a hands-on experience. Its digital viewing screen allowed multiple students and family members to observe a specimen at the same time, creating opportunities for discussion, collaboration, and shared excitement.\r\n\r\nHaving access to this technology transformed simple observations into meaningful scientific investigations. Students were excited to see familiar objects from a completely different perspective, which sparked new questions and encouraged them to investigate further. While it was originally intended to support students as they completed classroom playlists, it also became an important resource for presenting lessons and digital content throughout the school year.\r\n\r\nHaving a reliable classroom device allowed me to easily present instructional materials, videos, digital resources, and interactive lessons without many of the technology issues we had previously experienced. This helped minimize interruptions during instruction and allowed students to remain focused and engaged in their learning.\r\n\r\nThe laptop also supported the continued use of playlists and technology-based learning by giving me a dependable device to model activities, introduce assignments, and guide students through digital resources before they worked independently. They eagerly began designing their bridges, testing their ideas, and learning from each attempt. \r\n\r\nAs I reviewed the kits over the summer, I realized there are so many ways to extend their use throughout the following school year. To make the most of these materials, I am planning themed engineering days, each focusing on a specific design challenge or concept. Embedding these lessons throughout the year will help students continuously apply and deepen what they learn, rather than experiencing it all in just a few weeks.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your support!
