This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from a diverse, urban community. Each day, they come to remote learning eager to learn despite many personal challenges that some of them face. We are a Title I school where 100% of our students are eligible for free breakfast and lunch. Many of our students are English Language Learners.
In spite of all these challenges, my students get on Zoom for the day with smiles on their faces ready to embrace the day with creative thoughts and a positive attitude.
As their teacher, I strive to foster a safe environment where students feel comfortable taking risks and sharing their ideas.
My Project
My students have been fully remote since September. It's not always easy learning on Zoom all day, but my students are persevering through these challenges times. Teaching math remotely has been a bit of a challenge because my students don't have manipulatives to use at home while I teach the lesson.
By having their own Base Ten manipulatives at home, my students will be able to actively participate in my math lessons.
These manipulatives will be used for homework and learning games.
By adding a teacher whiteboard, I will be able to show my students math lessons as I teach on Zoom.
