A new school year is coming up and as a new teacher, I would love to implement math and literacy centers in my kindergarten classroom. Having students working in centers will give them extra practice with material that they may need more time with.
Math and literacy centers will allow students to work in small groups or with partners, engaging them more in activities that seem like games to them but benefits their individual learning.
I included about 5 activities of math and literacy that I believed would be great for a center in my classroom. For example, the CVC snap and build words will help students sound out words and they will have to try to spell the word based on the sounds they hear in the word. This also includes letter recognition. Another activity that would be great for students is the number rockets. This would be a great center close to the beginning of the year and throughout the year with students who may need more time with counting objects and number recognition. Connecting cubes, tens blocks, and ten frames are great manipulatives that can be used in centers and during math lessons. On this project I also included photo storage boxes and tiered carts to help organize all the supplies and will be easily accessible to my upcoming students.
Being able to implement centers in my classroom would be great and the students will definitely have a blast with all the materials!
