Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I am a second-grade teacher in inner-city Brooklyn. It is a constant focus of my lessons to keep students interested and motivated. When it comes to teaching math, accomplishing the goals and objectives while keeping students active and engaged is a challenge. However, I have found that students respond well when an overhead projector is used. This year I was able to use base-ten blocks on an overhead projector. The lessons when I was able to utilize the projector were far and away my most successful. Students were interested and attentive and absorbed a great deal more information than in a normal lesson. I would like to extend these lessons by using more overhead lessons in math. The supplies I'm asking for--three overhead-projector math kits from Lakeshore Learning--will allow me to make lessons come alive for my students. Thank you for considering my proposal.
