I work in a low-income 3rd-grade classroom. This will be my 2nd year teaching math, health, and science to two blocks of learners (approximately 60 students total) in Prince George’s County, MD. This is my ninth year teaching in a Title I school; meaning that over half of the students receive a free or reduced-price lunch.
My students are energetic, creative, and ambitious learners, who would benefit from new and innovative opportunities!
Additionally, the students at my school come from diverse backgrounds, which means they all have different needs. As a teacher of a low income/high poverty/heavily ELL (English Language Learners) school district, these students face challenges on a daily basis which only makes them stronger and more determined to reach their goals. They are very goal-oriented and I can’t wait to see how much they grow throughout the year!
I will use VersaTiles as part of my classroom Math Rotations. VersaTiles are great because they give the student a choice of answers - if their answer is not a choice, they know they need to go back and recheck their work. VersaTiles help engage the learner in puzzle-like activities that are created by the teacher on the skill that is being focused on in class. VersaTiles allow students to self-monitor with immediate feedback.
VersaTiles will help improve my classroom by providing myself and my students the flexibility for using them individually or for small group work.
They will replace overused worksheets with fun puzzle-like gameplay, increasing the effectiveness of skill practice in Mathematics!
