Typically, you can find my students engaged in project-based learning related to the math and science concepts they are learning. John Dewey said, "Give the pupils something to do, not something to learn; and if the doing is of such a nature as to demand thinking, learning naturally results." They are active learners who get excited about being involved in activities and projects that allow them to design, create, and build things.
Benjamin Franklin once said, "Involve me and I will learn." My students like to volunteer to lead group reviews, work in small groups, and serve as peer coaches to classmates who might need additional assistance.
Our school is an urban, public, middle school located in Ohio. The majority of the students have been in the district since kindergarten. Ninety-nine percent of the students are classified as economically disadvantaged. The student body is 83% African American, 8% Hispanic, 4% white, 3% Asian, and 2% multi-racial. Nineteen percent are students with disabilities.
Help me make learning fun and change the structure of the classroom as students practice the application of fundamental concepts such as circuitry, engineering, physics, art, and design thinking by completing engaging activities.
Incorporating littleBits STEAM education into math helps strengthen the application of higher-level critical thinking skills, collaboration and creativity.
When students work with these activities, they become problem-solvers who can persevere through unexplored territory. They will also use design thinking as a powerful platform for creative and innovative learning. littleBits teach design thinking skills in a playful and creative way.
