it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is the focal point of our community. Parents are involved, students are eager to learn, and the staff loves coming to work each day. Our school is located in the heart of Richmondtown. It welcomes students from New Dorp, Oakwood, Richmondtown, and Lighthouse Hill. We are a blended learning/hybrid model due to the pandemic. Most classes are ICT (Integrated Co Teaching) which means two teachers (one general education and one special education) in this classroom.
My Project
As a 5th grade teacher, we stress memorization of their times tables. There are so many different ways this can be achieved. Using songs, memorizing, counting, writing them and now this genius idea I came up with as yet another tool.
When learning the multiplication tables, whatever entry point works for my students, I let them run with it.
This will increase their agility to learn about financial literacy using all the operations - addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division! Over the years, I have found that repeated exposure to their preferred method helps them memorize them.
We will be making these fidget toys into manipulatives they can use during the year.
