We are part of a large district but have the highest ratio of special education and economically disadvantaged students. At this time, our hard-working kids need additional support to pass the End of Course Exam that is necessary to graduate.
As their teacher, it is my desire to procure all the items and manipulatives I can to encourage their motivation to learn.
Anything that might benefit them is something I am willing to try, although finances might not always allow. I have the best students in the world and want to teach them to the best of my ability so they have the skills necessary to be successful in school and life. Many of the educational philosophies today are to teach with our students' interests in mind, and that is my desire.
My Project
I have been teaching for 17 years. I have had the pleasure of teaching all grades and levels in high school. I have a particular fondness for hard to reach and special education students as well.
Every year I strive to do something for my students that is better than the year before.
This year my focus is kids who need extra support in Algebra concepts and basics. Many times, these students are deemed hard to teach or trouble makers. I want to not only teach them but reach them! I want them to be excited about math and learning when they come in to my room. In addition, in Texas, all students must pass a standardized math test to graduate and I have been chosen to guide many of these students in their repeat attempts at success on this challenging test.
Through the Ozobots, I hope to engage students as they have never been before. I desire to increase their higher level and abstract thinking that can translate to their success in not only high school but math and life beyond our hallowed walls. The Ozobots allow for technical thinking and sequencing beyond your standard steps to solve a problem but increase the fundamental math process skills as well. They introduce students (and all) to computer coding and a whole new way of thinking, working and even speaking. They will learn another language while developing their math skills!
Please consider helping my students think beyond the pencils, papers, equations, calculators, and even computers into the beyond- where all of that becomes one!
