Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work as a special education teacher in resource. My students have mild to moderate disabilities. They spend most of their day in the general education classroom but need extra help in order to be able to keep up with the work. Each student has a different disability, but it comes down to difficulty remembering how to do something. They are aware that other students understand the material being taught and it is a struggle for them. I love that they keep trying, they work hard, and find ways to cope with their disabilities and continue to persevere when a lot of people would want to give up.
Imagine going into a classroom where everyone speaks a different language, they all understand each other but you don’t.
They work on teaching you the language and you think you get it, that you are understanding what they are saying but find out the next day that you don’t remember anything you learned the day before, you have to start all over again. After a while you might give up, but not my students, they go back every day, they are determined to learn, they are not willing to give up.
My Project
My students have learning disabilities but they still have to be able to keep up with grade-level work. Calculators can make it so that they don't have to worry about adding, subtracting, multiplying, or dividing. If they don't have to worry about that, they can focus on the difficult parts of math.
It will help even the playing field, allowing them to keep up with their peers.
It can help make their lives a little easier, they struggle with carrying and borrowing. Calculators will take that struggle away so they can focus on learning the material. Thank you.
