it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My 4th-grade students are energetic and hard working. They love to learn and interact with their environment, using a hands-on approach to learning. This group of students comes from a wide variety of backgrounds both ethnically, culturally and financially. They are team players and are an amazing group of kids.
Fourth grade can be a real turning point for learning and developing for many children.
They are still "little kids" but they are growing up fast, it is so important to keep them excited and interested in learning.
My Project
These materials will make a difference in my students learning by providing the tools they need. They will be able to work independently and hands-on, rather than look at pictures. We will be studying measuring and angles in our next unit and they would love to be able to have the correct tools that are all the same. We will use protractors for finding, labeling and measuring angles. Rulers will help measure and create straight edges for types of lines. When we study the metric system we use meter sticks around the campus to find different lengths. An electric scale is great for estimating, identifying and comparing weights. Calculators are a great tool for checking answers and experimenting with numbers. All of these tools will greatly assist in their learning.
There IS a difference between a meter and a yard!
Scrounging for materials isn't beneficial when some groups have a yardstick and others have a meter stick and we are working on the metric system!
Students will be measuring, finding angles and lines all over the classroom and campus in order to see math in the real world. Seeing math in the real world can help create lifelong mathematicians.
