My Project

Living in the northern part of Alaska can be difficult to have access to additional, or more in depth, classroom materials. With this project, I will have unique math resources that can help my students achieve, not only higher level math scores, but also become STEAM leaders. STEAM leaders are an important village resource. People with this strong knowledge base, can help their village. They can help their village build upon the foundational skills of their current leaders.

Strong math skills can help their village become more independent, and be a competitive force among other regions in Alaska.

My students love math, but sadly they are currently below grade level. After this year, many of my students have shown amazing growth. However, the items I have chosen target multiplication, division, place value, money, and coordinate graphing. The whiteboard sets will give them the opportunity for hands-on demonstration of their knowledge. This will help me to see, and/or change up each lesson quickly. I have also chosen some magnetic pieces that can be used as a large visual reinforcement of what I am teaching. Please help me reach these students and give them the possibilities of becoming strong Alaskan leaders.
