My Students

Do you remember your math class? Now, imagine feeling like you're speeding through a race to learn everything - and you have to actually remember it for the state test in April! Once my students have mastered concepts, they need practice on a regular basis in order to retain the skills.

We are a small school in rural Florida.

For many of my students, English is their second language. My school is also in a high poverty area with many of my students having had to relocate in the last year due to financial issues. Despite the challenges they face, my students love math and work very hard to master the concepts I am teaching. However, they need to practice these skills continually in order to retain what has been taught.

My Project

The math activities requested will be used to help students retain skills taught in class. The software will be up and running on our computers each day so students can tackle a challenge problem whether they have an extra ten minutes of class time or one minute before their bus is called. I intend to add the games to the few games I inherited when I took over one of our fourth grade math classes. The activity center will be dismantled, inventoried, and available for parents to check out to help their children at home.

Imagine if students squeezed an extra 3 minutes of game/review time into each day.

That's 15 extra minutes a week - about 6 hours of extra math time before our state test! Your donation could help these students master & retain math skills they might otherwise see only during review time.
