This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Ours is a Cincinnati Public School. In our school, 100% of our students receive free and reduced-price lunches, with very limited school supplies for our students. My first-grade class has been working very hard on self-control/motivation with working hard independently and in small groups. Besides the financial struggles my students face, about 80% are ESL students, who have very little exposure to the English language outside of school. They struggle every day learning what is expected of them because when they get home they don't have anyone to help them.

My Project

The donations to this project will help to improve my students' understanding of meaningful math activities. It is proven that children learn better through hands-on activities and using manipulative is a great way to make this work.

A large portion of the supplies that are being requested are items that can help the children have a better understanding of place value, which will help with their math understanding all the way through high school.

We will use these in stations so that they have more hands-on experience. All of these supplies will be used weekly in my classroom.

By using manipulatives they can see things changing in front of their eyes. This gives them a more concrete vision and understanding of math. These will be set up in stations. With the way common core math is set up, we are required to ask more from students which gives less time for them to master a skill.

We are requesting math playing cards, quiz cards, puzzles, and more!
