Help me give my students resources to encourage lifelong math lovers! Must know math skill books are a fun, interactive way to engage students with real world math scenarios.
I teach in a low income school district in North Carolina. My school is a Title I school where 100% of the school population receives free breakfast and lunch daily. Some of my students also receive blessings in a backpack, which is a bag full of food to take home for the weekend. Many of my students face daily challenges that others take for granted such as where the next meal will come from. Some students come to school hungry. This plays a huge role in their attention span and eagerness to learn.
Despite the challenges my students face, they enjoy coming to school, engaging in their learning, and facing positive challenges that require them to use critical thinking skills.
My district was severely affected by Hurricane Florence. We had a total of 6 schools in our district and we lost 2 of them, causing an increase in numbers in class sizes at other schools. Some students lost not only everything at school but at home as well!
My students are amazing and I want to use every resource I can to help them reach their full potential.
My Project
These resources will be used daily in math centers to encourage students to take chances with math and be brave to take chances. Students get tired of the same old routine. These resources will help to mix it up and encourage a love for math.
Many students ask "when will I use this in real life?" These resources help answer that question by providing engaging, interactive activities that relate to real world scenarios.
If students can find a love for math, it may make it easier to fill those missing gaps where students struggle. The interactive workbooks will keep students engaged by exposing them to a variety of activities.
