Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live in a low-income area of Los Angeles county. All of my students come from low-income families. We are a Title I school where one hundred percent of our students receive free meals. My students always try their best at everything and anything despite the challenges that they face in their daily lives.
They are already not expected to have it as easy as others, but we learn that with hard work and consistency, they can be "unique" or different from the rest.
My students are so eager to learn that it makes coming to work easy!
My Project
Help my students bring their education to life by providing them the opportunity to see the things they have only read about. Help my visual learners see and learn math in a variety of different ways. Let's bring Math alive by showing them pictures and displaying them so that everyone can see. With a document camera, I will be able to bring to life what students only now read about in Math books. It is often difficult for my students to visualize different methods of solving math problems other than the examples shown on their books. Students need to be given an opportunity to show their work to the class and explain that there are many different ways of solving one problem and yet arrive at the same answer. With a document camera students not only get to show and explain their work to the rest of the class but also provides an opportunity to take teaching into their own hands.
