Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students at our school are truly the best! As a Title I school we are working to get students to master their grade level standards on a budget. Our school recently went from a two-star school to a four-star school, which means big budget cuts!
Working in a Title I school means working with 100% of students living well below the poverty line.
All students receive free school breakfast and lunch. My students have a lot of energy and an active learning style.
What makes my students special is their eagerness and desire to learn. I would describe the staff and students at my school as a family outside a family. We all collaborate to make our students' education the best it can possibly be by going above and beyond so that they can be successful in their academic, enrichment, and social lives.
My Project
As a school we are above average in literacy in our demographic. Our school is slightly below average in student math test scores. Our school goal this year is to raise student math achievement. Flexible seating (balance ball) while doing math and other centers will help them feel comfortable and less figity during these often challenging and complex math lessons. Error analysis is important to learning math. The error analysis math center will help students find errors in problems so that they can hopefully avoid errors in their own problem solving. Error analysis will help them practice problem solving skills while engaging in mathematical academic discourse.
