Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My classroom is filled with energetic first graders, ready to learn as much as they can. Even though many of my students live in the challenging situations brought on by poverty, they love school because it is their place to shine!

Students enter our school in Kindergarten with varied backgrounds and early childhood experiences. All of my students are English Language Learners and many come to school and do not yet know their numbers and other basic math concepts. As teachers, we must address all of the individual needs in our classroom in order to set our students up for future success in math.

The small group instruction that is provided during centers time is crucial to ensuring that all students will get the instruction they need to be successful. The hands-on manipulatives and resources I am requesting will keep students engage in learning and help them master some of the most foundational concepts in math. At the same, while the rest of the class is engaged in meaningful learning, I will be able to spend time providing review and remediation to our struggling students. I am also requesting some organizational systems that will ensure students can easily access the materials they need, and that the materials will be kept nice and neat for years to come.
