Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 6th grade mathematics at MS 223, The Laboratory School of Finance and Technology. We are a new school that opened in the worst school in NYC. A telling sign of the povery our students face is the fact that over 95% of our kids qualify for free lunches from the federal government. Most of our students are far below grade level in math. In an age where education has become essential to find a job, our students are being excluded from economic opportunity because of where they were born. I am fighting to give them the education they deserve. One major barrier to this is the lack of resources. Our school does not have enough classrooms, making a library out of the question. On top of that our budget for books is extremely limited. My kids need books that teach them about math and how math is everywhere. It is my goal to show them how pervasive mathematics truly are, how useful math can be in daily life, and how important math can be to their future success. Please fund this grant and help make math real for my students. You have the opportunity to change their lives by giving them a fighting chance. Thank you for believing in them.
