Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students who are in my classroom live in a very poor area of the inner city. Our school is a Title I school, so all of our students qualify for free lunches. Many of our students come to school with no socks on, because they simply cannot afford them. Keeping these hardships in mind, our students and parents are some of the most wonderful people I have ever worked with.
They are caring and full of life.
For some of my students, I am the only thing that remains constant in their lives. A lot of my students come from shelters or single parent families with lots of siblings. Although my school is a Title I school, I have never felt more loved than I do with the students I teach, or more rewarded.
My Project
These books will help aid my students by providing them with real world relationships of the concepts we are teaching. Since our students come from such a condensed area, many students are unable to relate to the material/concepts we are trying to teach them. Through the use of picture books, we can bring these concepts to life, by making them significant to students. These math picture books, will allow students to understand why it is important to learn numbers, comparing numbers, addition, subtraction, and shapes by showing them examples of how they would use these concepts in their everyday lives.
