This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am lucky enough to run a Learning Center at my school for students who need just a little more support and attention to grow in their academics and overall potential. Every Wednesday, I plan a high engagement game for students to practice their math fluency skills in a fast paced task that not only reinforces their math skills, but helps them work as a team and build peer relationships. In order to make these tasks/games fast paced, I use math task cards that have QR codes attached to them so my staff and I can very quickly check their answers. TPT is a wonderful resource for buying math task cards that come with QR codes that scan for the answers.

With these TPT gift cards, I would be able to purchase a variety of math skills including basic calculations, word problems, fractions, decimals, and so on and I will be able to match task cards to students' IEP goals as well as their classroom standards.

I print the problems on quarter sheets of paper, so after the students solve and check their answers, they can crumble up the paper and use it according to the game. Sometimes we play Trasketball, Snowball Fights, or Knock the Cup to name a few.

My students absolutely love Wednesdays and can't wait to play a game. It's even more amazing how many problems they accomplish in 20 minutes because they want to throw the paper ball at a trash can or a plastic cup.
