Math and Music Can Go Hand in Hand

My Students

This will be my second year teaching high school Geometry. My students will be predominantly sophomores representing all levels of ability. The school community is a diverse community with students coming from all different socioeconomic backgrounds. We are a Title I school and over half the student population is on free or reduced-price lunch.

My students are interested in more than just math.

I want to help provide them with materials they need to be successful in their other classes and interests. Our music department is fundraising to get more portable music stands. I am hoping to reach across to other content areas and help out where I can.

My Project

Our music department is growing year after year and it is developing a very diverse crowd. You have theater majors mixing it up with math majors. There are English majors working with athletes. The arts really work to bring students together. We are requesting music stands for their orchestra, choir, chorus, and band classes.

These students deserve to have the necessary supplies needed to ensure this type of diverse collaboration continues.

The music department has put out a specific call for help with trying to fundraise to get more music stands. Each department should not have to fend for their own without help from others. I would like to help them reach their goal of getting enough music stands for the kids.

The students will be working on their spring concert and spring musical this semester. By getting the extra music stands needed, the students will be able to focus on their musical talents and not how they are going to hold their music sheets.
