Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach kindergarten at a small, inner city elementary school in San Diego, CA. I have been at this school my entire teaching career, twenty-eight years. I have remained at this school because of the students and their parents, despite offers to transfer to other schools.

My students come from the most diverse neighborhood in San Diego and are mostly from the lowest socioeconomic background, but they and their families value education above material goods and they are very motivated to learn.

These literacy and math center materials will help with student engagement and help students reach grade level standards. In kindergarten, we spend a lot of time in centers. Literacy and math centers include hands-on activities designed to reach students at their specific level of learning and to offer meaningful educational experiences. Your generous donation to our project will keep students motivated to come to school every day so they can be stronger readers, writers, and thinkers. With lots of motivation for learning, we can increase our attendance, and they will become successful readers and writers.
