My students are full of questions and curiosity. They are energetic, respectful, and funny. They are also real, gritty, and exposed to life's difficulties. They have a natural appetite for music and are excited to be part of something bigger than themselves through band and choir. Their lives are full of needs and challenges, but they show amazing courage in the battles they face every day and the obstacles they overcome.
My school is wonderfully diverse with roughly equal numbers of Hispanic, Native American, and white students.
Many come from broken homes and struggling families, which is showcased by our 100% free/reduced lunch status. Oregon has one of the lowest graduation rates in the country and my high school is among the lowest in Oregon.
My students are people full of potential with futures full of possibility!
My Project
A car won't get far without tires. A tennis racket is only useful with a tennis ball. A snare drum cannot be played without sticks, just as a clarinet cannot be played without a reed. Musical instruments require certain supplies to function properly. Without these basic supplies, the students in my band program will not be successful.
Many of my students cannot afford the basic required materials for their instrument, which may lead them to drop band class.
The students of our school want to be involved in music, but without the proper materials, we'd be setting them up for failure. Your generous donation will help the students at our school will make music this school year and keep kids in the arts.
