Materials Needed to Create Multi-Sensory Learning

Help me give my students materials for multi-sensory teaching. These materials will allow me to create materials that are durable for every day use for reading instruction.

This project is fully funded

My Project

I am a special education teacher working with students in grade 1- 5. I am in need of materials to create durable manipulatives and hands on resources for teaching reading using the Orton-Gillingham multi-sensory approach. Orton-Gillingham is a highly structured approach that breaks reading and spelling down into smaller skills involving letters and sounds, and then building on these skills over time. This approach uses explicit, direct, sequential, systematic, multi-sensory instruction to teach reading, which is not only effective for all students but essential for teaching students with dyslexia.

For this instruction to be effective, students need hands on materials to enhance their involvement in learning.

Some materials that will be created with these materials are reading strategy bookmarks, decoding cards, strategy posters, grapheme picture cards, classroom OG schedule, syllable division poster and bookmark set, syllable division activity center, encoding and decoding center activities and decodable readers. Students are always excited to use these hands on manipulatives during learning and it helps keeps them engaged in lessons. Being able to laminate and organize these materials will ensure they last for students to use year after year.
