My Students
My class is very special. Although many have struggles they encounter at home, they continue to have a bright attitude towards school, and it makes my job so rewarding. They deserve to have wonderful learning materials. School is most likely the happiest, most positive place they go to during the week.
In a school where there is high poverty and many different cultures, my students are individually unique which makes my classroom complete.
I am amazed at the twinkle in my students' eyes as they enter the classroom each morning. The eagerness to learn keeps my attitude positive. Some students spend their nights with babysitters or older siblings while their single parent works their second job to make ends meet. Others, often, are in homes where the most attention they receive is when they are getting in trouble. No matter the difficulties in life my five year olds are experiencing, they are always at school eager to learn. What really makes my classroom unique is the different cultures my students bring to our school family. The majority of students in my class are English language learners. Visuals are key to their success.
My Project
Kindergarten students need hands on materials to enhance their learning experience. A felt board and felt pieces will help students retell stories, count, and create words. This felt board will be placed in a center where the students will be able to work independently or with a friend. Therefore, their language and communication skills will develop and get plenty of practice.
Another center I plan on creating is a "fine motor" center.
Lacing letters and shoes will enhance students' fine motor skills and will even teach some students how to tie their own shoes! The feeling of success when tying your own shoes will give students confidence and a sense of independence.
