Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my classroom are eager to learn, passionate, and hard-working. They are an extension of my family; they inspire me every single day.
My classroom is a space where my students are learning in a variety of ways; they may be using technology, incorporating art, designing in a STEM challenge, or working as teams to complete math "escapes rooms."
All of these fun and engaging activities require materials that are consumed or have been misplaced or broken. I would love to replace some of these materials so we can keep doing a variety of activities in the classroom.
My Project
My students love to move, to engage in dialogue with each other about their learning. It is important for me to make sure that I am giving my students a variety of ways to learn in a variety of learning environments.
When students can explore, manipulate, discuss, design, and experiment they better comprehend concepts and ideas they are learning.
For this project I will use the treasure chest and locks in order to facilitate escape rooms in which students need to work in collaborative groups solving math riddles in order to "escape" the room. This has been one of the most loved activities in math, but the previous locks have jammed and we need to replace them with sturdier ones.
The Magnaformers will be used as part of a design challenge in which students will need to test the strength of a bridge under the stress of an earthquake. The magnaformers are perfect because they can build and rebuild structures over and over so multiple students can use them. The pillows will be used to give my students a floor space to work on collaborative or partner projects. This allows groups to spread out a little bit more around the room.
Lastly, we will use the microphone and camera stand to record digital stories. We have a green screen and camcorder, we are just missing a stand and a microphone to make sure the audio comes in clearly. With all of these materials, I am able to provide my students with a whole host of ways to get them moving, discussing , and working together.
