The 25 students in my second grade class next year are excited and ready to learn. They have made a lot of growth and progress in kindergarten and first grade, but second grade is the gateway to upper elementary and they need to have the materials and experiences so they can succeed.
Art integration has been shown to not only be interesting and engaging for students, but it helps them to learn better and remember what they learn.
Having the correct materials to allow for art integration with my second graders will help them to learn reading, science, math, and social studies so that it will stick with them and help them in their lives.
My Project
Currently, the second graders are coming in at different reading levels and with different background experiences. However, by creating arts integrated projects, all students can access the content and they can show what they know with little to no written language, if necessary.
As my students use this materials to paint pictures of what they've learned in science and social studies, or draw diagrams and label what they've read for reading, students will learn more and retain that knowledge.
My students will be able to mix the oral and written English language with the arts to show their learning and to get more out of their learning.
